The Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award scheme is available at Highcrest for students in Years 9 and 10. To register for either Duke of Edinburgh award, you will need to be willing to learn/improve in a new sport and skill, give your time to others by completing service to the community and be up for completing a two-day expedition (at Bronze level).
 
The Silver Award for students in Years 12 and 13 is available through Bucks County Council open award scheme. They run weekly evening sessions in Wycombe town centre. See Mrs Weldon for more details.
 
In 2018, the Silver Award will be available at Highcrest to KS5 students.
 
The Duke of Edinburgh Award will begin during the Autumn term for Year 10 pupils. Activity sessions to prepare pupils for the necessary survival and life skills to complete the expedition will begin in the Spring term. Activities will include map reading, route planning and camping skills.
 
Current expedition dates are as follows:
  • Practice expedition: 18-19 May 2018
  • Real expedition: 8-9 June 2018
The Duke of Edinburgh Award will be launched in the Spring term for Year 9 pupils. Activities will include map reading, route planning and camping skills. Current expedition dates TBC.
 
The maximum cost of the programme (to include the expeditions and some equipment) is £100. This will cover the following:
 
  • Registration Fee
  • Expedition expenses (camp fees etc)
  • Some equipment hire
  • Individual Map
  • Individual Compass
There may be subsidies/grants available to pupil premium pupils.
